What is Yellow Fever?

Have you heard about yellow fever? Sound funny but it is cause death for many children in Africa and South America. What is yellow fever? It is an acute infection a public health problem in endemic countries in Africa and South America. A person can be infected with yellow fever when they are bitten by a mosquito infected with the virus that causes yellow fever. Yellow fever virus is the cause of the “family Flaviviradae”. Carrier of the virus that causes yellow fever is Aedes aegyti (carrier of Dengue virus – cause Dengue Fever and Dengue Hemorrhagic).

Signs or symptoms of yellow fever disease are :-

- Sudden fever – chills (chills)
- Headache – nausea and vomiting
- Weakness (prostration)
- Aches and pains

Yellow Fever disease incubation time is 60-10 days. Patients can have light brown (jaundice) liver failure, and they also suffered kidney failure. Death can occur within 70-10 days. In some cases the rate of deaths from yellow fever can occur up to 50%.

To prevent yourself from Yellow Fever, Yellow Fever vaccination l injections should be taken before going to a country endemic with yellow fever. Yellow fever vaccination is only effective 10 days after injection, and can protect a person from yellow fever for 10 years.

Although yellow fever is only available in some countries but not impossible for it to come to another country. We must always be sensitive to prevent from being infected.
