Children need nutritious food for brain development.Development of children vary according to their intelligence level. Some children at the age of one year are able to talk and walk but there is also not showing any signs.

Many experts think children fitness of children depends on their brain development.
In other words, the development of the brain depends on nutrients that are taken by pregnant women and their growth period.

Children with acute malnutrition in the growth period will indicate the rate or level of learning is slow, slow to speak and poor motor development. Therefore, parents should ensure their children are provided with essential nutrients for brain development of their children are in the active.

Nutrients for Brain Development

Docosahexaenoic acid or DHA is a long chain omega-3 fatty acid that is naturally found in foods such as salmon, tuna and fish of the sea waters as well as canola oil.


DHA comprises about 97 per cent and 93 per cent of all omega-3 fatty acids in the brain and eyes.
Studies conducted by the European Food Safety Corporation (EFSA), DHA needs of children aged six months to two years is 100 milligrams, while those aged two years to 18 years need 250 milligrams of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and DHA for brain development.
Relationship exists between the amount of DHA taken by pregnant women especially during the last three months until the child was two years old. In essence, the principal amount of DHA taken will affect the child’s brain development.

DHA is the main ingredient to form the neuronal cell membrane, which is the liaison between the cell and affect the function of neurotransmitter acetylcholine and help brain cells communicate. A healthy brain will produce smart thinking.


In general, DHA is important for brain development. Optimal intake of DHA in early age children will benefit in cognitive function for a long time.

Children can get DHA from foods such as eggs, chicken and especially fish. But usually, most of the children refused to eat fish because of the fishy smell.

However, if the fish food preparation is done correctly, the children would be like to eat fish.

Children also need DHA directly because the child’s body is unable to properly process the DHA will arise once the shortage of DHA for brain development.

Study of the European Food Safety Corporation also recommend children to take 100 milligrams of DHA per day.
