The terms autism or autism spectrum disorder are used to describe a group of complex disorders of brain development that makes it difficult for a person to communicate, to relate to others or to grasp abstract concepts. While some people diagnosed with the disorder may face severe intellectual challenges, others show above average ability and are able to live relatively independent lives. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention in the United States, there has been a 30 percent increase in the prevalence of autism in children aged 8 from 2012 to 2014. The jury is still out on whether autism is really on the rise due to some factors or whether the increase is due to growing awareness about the disorder and broadening of its definition. The below infographic will help you understand the worldwide scale of autism and the average costs of services for treating autism.
