(Infographic) Homecare: The World’s Fastest Growing Industry?

By the end of this year, the senior population of the USA is expected to surpass 83 million. As life expectancy increases, along with the number of senior citizens, the requirement for home healthcare is going to become harder to satisfy. We are already seeing that, even with an expected growth rate of 38% in home health aides between now and 2024, the healthcare industry faces a serious challenge in trying to meet demand.

Another trend which has emerged is the steady decline in family members as caregivers for elderly patients in need of care. In 1990, there was an average of 11 possible family caregivers per person. In the next 30 years, that ratio is projected to shrink to four possible caregivers per person. The increasingly tight regulations on who is suitable to provide home healthcare is also a factor in the significant decrease in lay caregivers.
