Do you know that  October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month? Maybe not all of mention about this. During this month, women are encouraged to ensure their health with self examination and regular mammograms.

Most of us must learn more about prevention, treatment and the progress being made in fighting the disease. The possibility of a woman being diagnosed with invasive breast cancer is 1 in 8. The chance of it killing her is 1 in 35. Breast cancer is generally most common problem  in women after menopause, and a large majority of women are diagnosed after the age of 50.

The key to breast cancer cure and prevention is awareness. Get regular screening to ensure whether you effect or not. Early detection of breast cancer improves the chances that breast cancer can be treated successfully. Be aware of your family’s health history. Put all the pieces together. Breast cancer risk is higher among women whose close blood relatives have this disease. Even though breast cancer in men is rare, it does exist. Screening MRIs are recommended for women with strong family history of breast or ovarian cancer and women who were treated with radiation therapy.

The next step is to learn and perform breast self exams. The earlier you begin doing monthly exams, the more likely you are to find warning signs of breast cancer. You will know what is normal for you. Get breast exams yearly by your health care provider. Since health professionals know what to look for, they can find the worrisome problems.

After breast cancer has been diagnosed, there are many different treatment options; the most common being surgery and chemotherapy. Surgery is a targeted treatment and is usually the first line of defense against cancer. During surgery, the tumor, and in some cases the entire breast is removed. Cancer does not have to steal all joy from your life, make you less beautiful or anything less than you were prior to your diagnosis. You also can help reduce your chances of developing breast cancer by engaging in regular physical activity, maintaining a healthy weight, and limiting alcohol intake.
