Data for the year 2012 from the National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH) shows that 9.2 percent of the American population had used an illegal drug or abused a psychotherapeutic medication in the past month. Sadly, drug abuse remains a problem that plagues almost every corner of the world. In England, 298,752 people have been determined to be opiate or crack users. Though thousands of lives are lost every year due to drug abuse, a ray of hope has come recently in the form of drug treatment and rehabilitation programs which report great success in helping addicts recover from their dependencies on illegal substances.
