Malaysia records first Covid-19 fatality

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia recorded its first fatality in the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic, today.

The patient was a 60-year-old pastor at the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Kuching, Sarawak.

He died while undergoing treatment at the Sarawak General Hospital at 11am, the State Disaster Management Committee said in a statement today.

It added that the source of the pastor’s infection is still under investigation; and that 193 contacts of the deceased have been traced and are undergoing home quarantine.

Of the 553 Covid-19 cases recorded in Malaysia on Monday, 45 are in Sarawak.
