119 schools closed due to extreme heat

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 119 schools in Kuala Krai, Kelantan and Jerantut, Pahang will be closed for two days from tomorrow following high temperatures reaching 38 degrees Celcius due to the El Nino phenomenon.

Education Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid said the school closures were done in the interest of the safety of the students in the two districts.

He said the school closures will involve 41,665 students.

“The decision was made to close the schools in the two districts following extreme high temperatures.

“We are also asking the schools not to organise any outdoor activities in this period,” he told a press conference after attending a special meeting with vocational schools and technical schools at the Kolej Vokasional Kajang today
