What Food Labels Really Mean (Infographic)

When in the store, it can be so difficult to figure out what all of the food labels really mean. They can even be used as a marketing ploy and are often not healthy at all. This infographic from HappyCleans takes you through many of the typical labels you see at the store so you can be more aware when you’re shopping. For example, the word natural helps sell $40 billion worth of food every year but its definition is a little unclear. While the FDA does recommend that natural food should not contain artificial ingredients or preservatives, these guidelines are only recommended.

There is also a big issue with expiry date labels as a lot of people follow these blindly. They are often there to protect the manufacturer rather than the consumer. We simply shouldn’t be binning food when the expiry date is near as it is generally still absolutely fine to eat. Check out the infographic for more information.
