Deputy Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Hilmi Yahaya said the dry weather was expected to continue until April.

“This (heat stroke) happens, among others, when the heat from the sun absorbs the liquid from our body, causing dehydration,” he told reporters after the presentation of the 1Malaysia People’s Aid (BR1M) to 500 recipients in the Balik Pulau parliamentary constituency here Sunday.

He also advised the public to drink a lot of water, but to avoid buying drinks from roadside stalls as during the dry season, there was a higher risk of typhoid.

In an unrelated matter, he hoped the Penang government would expedite work to rebuild the embankment at the Telok Awak River and Teluk Bahang River which collapsed due to the floods last year.
