The study found that regular daily intake of products containing bacterial Lactobacilus casei Shirota (LCS) since the age of adolescence can reduce the risk of a woman affected by breast cancer. Through these studies, there was a relationship between the intake of drinks containing LCS and soy-based foods to cause breast cancer. Bacteria called (LCS) is to control the growth of harmful bacteria in the intestines and thus overcome the health problems among those who took it. The protective effect may be caused by a bacterium known as strain Shirota ‘that respond to the intestinal microflora that aid digestion of soy isoflavones. It also can help reduce the risk of breast cancer. In the study there were 355 patients aged 40 to 55 years who underwent breast cancer surgery from the period October 2007 to March 2009 and 710 healthy people who live in the same area and old age being the object of study.

As a result, it found a 30 percent risk of breast cancer can be reduced for those taking drinks containing lactic acid bacteria.

Soy-based foods have long been a staple of Asian diets, but they were absent from most American diets until about the last decade.

Soy contains isoflavones, which may have biologic effects that could potentially reduce breast cancer risk. It also has estrogen-promoting properties, which may spur the growth of breast cancers fueled by the hormone.

“The evidence is not quite there to start saying soy reduces the risk of cancer,” says Collins , AICR Nutrition Advisor Karen Collins, MS, RD, CDN. “But for breast cancer survivors who want to eat less meat, get protein and enjoy a more plant-based diet, soy is a healthy food and everyone – including breast cancer survivors – can feel comfortable eating it.”
