HIIT for Beginners – Infographic

Did you know that a 20-minute high intensity workout can have a reduction on body fat six times greater than that of a 40-minute moderate intensity alternative? This is one of the reasons why high intensity interval training (HIIT) has become so popular amongst people looking to burn calories and lose weight.

Aside from this substantial weight reduction, HIIT has other notable benefits. It costs little or nothing to carry out and it can be done almost any time and anywhere, so you won’t need to set time aside several days a week to travel to a packed gym.

HIIT workouts don’t need any expensive equipment, either. You can walk, run or cycle at a high intensity for a rapid and hugely effective walkout. You don’t even need to leave your home to perform HIIT; if the weather is atrocious, you can simply try some body weight or free weight exercises on a few square metres of floor and get equally impressive results.

The most important thing to remember while performing HIIT is to push yourself to your limits but also to know your limits. You don’t want to injure yourself by going too far with the workout, while ample recovery time between exercises is essential. It’s a good idea, too, to vary the routines frequently so that they don’t become stale and repetitive. Otherwise, you won’t be motivated to stick with HIIT and all the training you had performed will count for little or nothing. Variety is the spice of life!
